Provenance Consulting is a recognized leader in developing and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs for oil, gas, and chemical plants and facilities. We specialize in services specific to OSHA’s PSM elements including engineering evaluations, risk assessments, software implementation and development, and engineering information management. The position is located in Freeport, TX  with possible work at other locations Travel up to 10% of the time is possible.


Relocation incentives will be provided for qualified candidates.


The API Inspector is responsible for performing inspection of fixed equipment and piping, in addition to providing functional expertise related to Mechanical Integrity (MI) within the assigned project(s). Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution. Candidate will help establish efficient and effective MI inspection programs by performing physical inspection and testing of components, documenting inspections and testing in a timely manner, and submitting recommendations to resolve action items or deficiencies identified during inspections.


The API Inspector will report to either a site manager or project manager who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development. The API Inspector will work directly with clients on technical aspects of the projects and therefore must be able to communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely.
To fulfill this role, the API Inspector will:


Recommend additional Non Destructive Examination (NDE)

  • Provide oversight, interpretation, auditing and approval of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) performed by others.
  • Ensure that the inspections performed are meeting the inspection requirements of Provenance Consulting, LLC and Client programs.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the inspection of piping, including the application of relevant NDE and the recommendation of necessary repairs or alterations are in accordance with the applicable industry codes and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Periodically audit and evaluate examiners used for External Visual or Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) examinations.
  • Be able to perform routine monitoring programs and external inspections to maintain the integrity of fixed equipment.
  • Have the ability to collaborate with the project manager to organize, prioritize, and execute a heavy work load.
  • Visually inspect all visible weld surfaces and evaluate for code compliance
  • Provide timely feedback of inspection results
  • Ensure that the inspections performed are meeting the inspection requirements of Provenance Consulting, LLC and Client programs
  • Comply with all Provenance and client safety procedures that govern the work being performed


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent, some college experience preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in fixed equipment and piping inspection
  • Current API-570, and 510 certifications required
  • Basic computer skills, preferred
  • Be able to climb ladders and platforms up to 250 feet with a harness and lanyard
  • Be able to work outdoors in warm, hot and cold conditions
  • Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.) is preferred
  • The unrestricted right to work in the United States
