Through innovation and technology, Provenance Consulting provides information management systems and services that track, monitor, verify, and sustain data that personnel use in the operation of oil, gas, and chemical plants and facilities. We specialize in process safety management, software implementation, and custom software development. We not only implement and maintain information systems and processes, but we build the foundation of these systems that ensure the data utilized is accurate.




The position is located at our office in the Energy Corridor of Houston, TX. Travel up to 15% of the time is possible.

The PSM Consultant - Project Lead is responsible for assisting our clients with Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) rules including Management of Change (MOC), Mechanical Integrity (MI), Process Safety Information (PSI), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and other process safety issues. Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution.

The PSM Consultant - Project Lead will report to the site manager or line of service manager who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development

To fulfill this role, the PSM Consultant - Project Lead will:

  • Internal and external client management and satisfaction—this is a client-facing role
  • Effective technical communication, both verbal and written for items such as reports, emails, and presentations
  • Execution and management of process engineering work for all things related to pressure relief systems. E.g., revalidations, 3rd party-audits, MOC action items, PHA action items, process simulation, hydraulic simulations, dispersion analyses, preliminary or detailed design, installation support, PSSR and MOC support, etc.
  • Proposal, cost, and schedule development
  • Quality checking work product including but not limited to engineering rationale, calculations, equations utilized, technical clarity, and comparisons to internal and external standards
  • Frontline supervision and leadership of engineers and technicians including employee development, recognition, and discipline
  • Measures performance against goals and evaluates results; achieves established metrics for self and ensures direct reports meet their metrics; addresses any performance issues of direct reports
  • Provides challenging and stretching tasks and assignments, holds frequent development discussions, is aware of each direct report’s career goals; is a people builder
  • Blends people into teams when needed; creates strong morale and spirit in his/her team; shares wins and successes; fosters open dialogue; lets people finish and be responsible for their work
  • Accurately scopes out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; sets objectives and goals; anticipates and adjust for roadblocks or issues
  • Exhibits the Virtues of a Provenance Employee 


The ideal candidate will have:

  • BS Chemical Engineering (Provenance Consulting may consider other engineering degrees coupled with 3+ years direct experience in process engineering, plant operations, or relief systems design.)
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering design, operations, or process safety management
  • 2+ years project management experience
  • 1+ years of team lead or supervisory experience
  • EIT certification or PE license
  • Working knowledge of API 520 Pt I/II, 521, 526, 2000, ASME VIII, ASME I
  • The unrestricted right to work in the United States
  • Process Safety Management experience and working knowledge of CFR 1910.119 preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Outside sales and proposal development experience preferred 
  • Personnel management and development experience preferred
